Location: Piazza dell'Esquilino, Rome, Italy Height: 14.75 meters Weight: unknown Red granite It seem to have been brought from Egypt to Rome in the second half of the first century as a pair with the obelisk currently stands at the Piazza del Quirinale. It stood in front of the Mausoleum of Augustus. The Esquilino obelisk was found in three pieces in 1519. In 1587, Sixtus V re-erected the obelisk in the square in front of Santa Maria Maggiore. There is no inscription.
